OUR LOVE STORY
How we met
Once upon a time, in our hometown of Bamenda, I went to visit my friend at her house. But when I got there, I met her brother, a tall, slender guy who looked like a chocolate king! My heart raced, then the shyness kicked in. He asked for my name and said his sister wasn’t home but that he would tell her I stopped by.
I came back a few times to see his sister, but he wasn’t there. Turns out, he was talking about me when I wasn’t around! Then one day, when I visited again, he decided to flirt by sharing food with me from the same plate.
Who knew eating could be romantic?
What happened
So, There we were the beginning of a relationship that went on for three years. Funny thing is, we never officially broke up. One day, I went to visit him in Douala, where he had a job while I was in University in another city. I was being all nice, cleaning his place, when BOOM! I spotted some random female clothes stuffed in his hallway closet. I finished the chores, cooked him a nice meal and left never to return. No note, no text, just poof.
When he got back from work, he found an empty house and zero clues. He came to the city where I was in school to find me and I refused to open the door let alone see him. I’d decided that three’s a crowd, and if it wasn’t just me, then it was bye-bye.
Fast Forward
Ken and I didn’t talk for a long time. I moved to the USA in the 2000s, and we just went our separate ways.
Then 23 years later guess who calls me? Yep, Ken.. I went silent on the phone for a minute full of excitement and all kinds of emotions.
Our catching up must say was Epic....
I finally found my missing rib after years of dating disasters and life lessons that basically shaped us into who we are today.
Ken flat out told me “Don’t introduce me as your boyfriend. You’re my wife.” I heartbeat
